My LFs either sells me the wrong thing or doesnt sell me the right thing i want. THey sold me a Spotted Raphael for my 10 gallon along with selling me 7 fish for a tank that was set up that morning. They wouldnt sell me a Severum because they said it would eat my RTBs that was bigger than it.

i asked for two opaline gouramis(5.99 each) and paid for two fancy dwarf gouramis (9.99each)
Oh and they knowingly sold me three large yellow lab and a pleco for an uncycled ten gallon tank when i didnt know better yet. =[

Actually, I again beg to differ! I am an advocate for the Betta's who live very happily in a community tank. I am fully aware that some are not, it comes on a personality basis. It's a common over-generalisation that I am often confronted with here...

Well, anyways...Mr Personality resides in my partner's 3 footer, quite happily alongside angels, rams, rtbs's, bn's, a blue and a three spot gourami, salmon tail cat fish and a pictus. He really knows how to have fun by using a childs water slide toy that is part of the filter, surfs the filter currents and does all manner of funny cute but fun things... :p :fun: :hyper:

There are exceptions to everything. Bettas can be happy in community tanks, and lonely alone but other's are definately loners... :grr:

Cheers, Xan

Yep, the LFS in the plaza near us (not my regular store) once sold me three of what they said where endlers - I later found they were baby harlequin rasboras.

:D Some of these stories,.

Some lfs's have no clue and are just after your money...

No, i cant say ive been sold something like that, execpt one plant i bought which was non-aquatic.... Which was dumb on my part really! :)

One of my local lfs (which i no longer use) actually tried to give me two female swordtails (because he'd caught two in the net) when I protested and said it would overstock my tank and I only wanted one - he scooped the spare one up in his hand and shot it back in the tank whilst I stood open mouthed. :-(

WE also went in on the day that they get new fish in. My husband pointed out that one of the fish they were putting in the tank had fallen on the floor "oops" he said and picked it up and put it in the tank for some poor unsuspecting buyer. :grr:

Obviously quarantining is something they've never heard of. They have a good variety of fish and as newbies we used them a lot until we realised that we had a 90% fatality rate from any fish we bought from them. WE don't use them now at all. And pity the poor beggars who do.

I've actually considered reporting them to the RSPA.

Got a good one now though :D

how many of you have been sold the wrong thing by, your lfs

I haven't.

Know what you're going to buy BEFORE you go to the LFS. Never count on them to give you good advice. Sure, some will, but why risk it when there is plenty of good information on the web, including here at TFF?

Very glad to say that since I found this site, I have never been sold something that would not be at home in my tanks. Thats due to all modernhamlet said, know what you want, research it and if suitable go get it, armed with more info than the lfs employee :D

Jon

When I first got into cichlids and didn't know much about them I went to my lfs and they sold me three jewel cichlids. Well two were actually jewels but the other one was a jack dempsey I later found out. I still have the jack demsey and he's doing fine living with all my african cichlids.

i completely agree i have a beautiful male betta living in my community tank, he gets on great with all the fish except one for the first day (he was bullied for 2 mins) the other fish knows better now! i have had a several male betta's (not at once :S ) in my community tank and had no problems with any of them
