Below are the fish i have and what size tank i have, how many more? I wanted to get another frog and i saw a striped acanthadorus that i like

Thanks

What plecs are they? I had a 4" Common plec, bought my 2 yr old son a dwarf frog on the Wed, Thurs morning no frog!!!! Just a very happy looking plec!!! Also they will out grow that tank

Yeah i have common plec's, one is very tiny about 3" long and the other about 4" but ive watched them and seen the plecs just sweep over him and not hurt him or try eat him? They just leave him be

ok so assuming that you re-home the fish that aren't suitable for the tank that leave you with

2x Platties
2x Swordtail Platties
1x Silver Balloon Molly
9x Cardinal Neon Tetra's
1x Dwarf frog

the tank's 34 us gallons, you work out stocking on 1" of fish, per us gallon of water. it's not exact but it should give you a good enough idea.

you've about 18" there once the angels and plecs have gone. so room for nearly the same amount of fish again.

are the platys and swordies male or female? cos they should be kept at a ratio of 1m/2f so you may need to add more to get this ratio right.

then you'll have most space at the bottom of the tank so maybe a BN plec, a group of cories or small loaches would work nicely.

then you could have a pair or trio of more suitable centerpiece fish to replace the angels, something like rams, apistogrammas, dwarf gouramis :good:

 i love my plecs and angels the most! Can i not just re-home them when they get too big? They look like they have loads of room at the moment! How fast do they both grow?

I have a male and female platy, yes agree with you that i need to get 2 more females! The 2 swordtails are male (i think) They have the long swords dont they and the females dont? Am i right?

Whats a BN Plec and cories? Im not 2 good on names so i will look them up! Rams, apistogrammas?? I will have to look them up 2

i know, but keeping them in the tank will stunt them and eventually kill them.

the problem with keeping them to re-home them 'when they grow too big' is that they wont. In a way it's true when people say fish will grow to the size of the tank. However it will do them massive damage, they will becomes susceptible to disease and will die far too early and in a horrible way.

To be able to spot when they have reached they're max size for the tank is nigh in impossible so really it's best to re-home them now before any damage is done.

sorry that's probably not what you want to hear but i know you want to do whats best for the fish and in this case to re-home them asap is the best thing for them.

yup your right, you can see underneath them with both the platys and swordies they have a gonipodrium (sp) which basically looks like a willy, so you can tell if they're boys!

a BN Plec is a bristlenose plec, they're like your plecs but IMO cuter and only grow to 6" so you can have one for life in your tank.

cories are corydoras catfish, very cute little buggers, stay small at 2/3" max and are the friendliest funnest fish

Do i just take them to any shop? Will they buy them off me?

I will have to look around now then for some other fish that are suitable for my tank! I hate it when shops just let you buy what ever and dont tell you anythink

yup take them back to the shop you bought them from, say they're unsuitable for your tank and they shouldn't have sold you them, say you want a refund or to swap them for something more suitable.

you might get a bit of aggro though, some places don't like it.

however if you find a decent shop then they should buy them off you (expect to get something like 1/3 of the price they'd sell them for) we have a great relationship with our lfs and they'll take in anything from us, regardless if they can sell it or not

I bought the angels a little while ago now they might not remember me buyin them and i havent got the receipt! They might let me swap em i dunno. I got my 1st plec from essex, theres noway im going all the way back there haha!

just try and take them to wherever is convenient, if you don't mind not getting any money for them you should be able to get somewhere to take them, the main thing is to return them to somewhere where they will get sold on to a suitable home

No point taking them back to where i got them from then cus they will probably sell them to some1 like me!

Im gutted now cus they are beautiful and always cum up 2 my hand when im putting food in

In reply to this topic You need roughly 5 litres of water for every 4cm of fish. So to keep 1 neon tetra you need approx 5 litres of water and for a red fin shark you need 15 litres of water.

This is an old thread from early February so anything that needed to be done would have already been done. You notice all the discussion about a pleco which isn't in the signature now.
