At the bottom of this page there is a thread called "how to become a mod".

You become a mod here by being invited.

To be invited, you must have shown the existing management that you are a reliable poster, who recognises the responsibilities of "moderatorship". This frequently is not explicit, but learned by "watching" a person who deals with "difficult" threads in a resonsible and mature manner.

People that "want" to be mods, are rarely suitable.

I am a Mod on 3 other Boards,a chinchilla forum an animal rescue forum and a reptile forum and all i can say is its not always good fun

I have great respect for all Mods and admin on any forum because they put a lot of hard work into keeping a forum running smoothly

And (from experience on another non-fish related forum) it's not at all that exciting.

It only bores me because everytime a new mod is elected there will be some members who think they're fit to be a mod and the whole thing starts over again and then dies down,
and then when its finally quiet a new mod is elected again

But i admit, i used to want to be a mod once, but it isnt so great, you have deal with pesky members like me all the time

DD, you hit it on the head. The cycle repeats every time.

It's similar to being the boss at work. Everyone knows better than their boss, can do the job better, I should be boss, etc. Once you get there you find out it's really more of a pain than you thought.
