how many lph would you recommend for 170l tank?

thanks

All depends on the fish you have in there...

Fish like Betta need calmer conditions, so ~700lph would be towards the upper limit.
Fish like hillstream loach live in torrential currents, so 3400lph would not be an issue.

Between 5-10x turnover depending on fish type and stocking levels will work fine.

remember turnover and flow are different things, you want the best turnover you can afford, you can slow the velocity by longer spraybars.

thanks

im hoping to have barbs, rainbow fish, corys and dwarf rasbora.

have seen this but not sure because it seems too cheap. its 12.5 turnover. what do u think?

I think a bit to big for me i had a aqua one filter bout the same as that was dead loud too. If u want a gd filter for a 170l hav a look at fauval u3 or4 abit more money but wud b better filter .think the u3 only dus up to 150l so u mit hav to get the u4. That filter u was lookin at wud blow barbs allround ur tank. :hyper:

I'd go for a Fluval U4 if choosing an internal (where you can reduce the flow by changing between a/b/c modes), or an All Pond Solutions 2000EF (where the ~1200lph true flow with no spraybar modules can be reduced to <900lph by adding all the spraybar pieces).

As I wrote on your stocking post yesterday, I would choose no more than 3 schooling species which each use a different level of the ~165l tank, enabling you to add more than the "minimum 6." If these fish are staying in this tank long term, you should be looking at <120cm adult size fish tops.

What type of rainbows were you thinking of?

People have very good reviews of the tetratec 1200, the fish you are stocking like a decent amount of flow

im planning on dwarf rainbows but haven't fully decided on final stocking. will look into that filter. thanks. x
