I've just bought a nice 60l tank - the first tank I've got to myself - and want to get a Bristlenose Pleco and some Guppies. However what would be a good combination, bearing in mind I don't have money for another tank?

The tank will have a small gravel substrate, a piece of bogwood for the pleco, a 20cm fake rock formation thingy (great description I know) and some plants. At the moment I've got 3 30cm silk plants and 3 20cm silk plants.

So, should I get... (alongside the pleco)

1 noticeably pregnant female guppy

2 females and a male

7-10 males?

Thanks...

I would say about 2 males( you only need a few to make a lot of babies :) ) and maybe 3 or 4 females. They will all be pregnant quick so maybe if you're planning on keeping the babies go with 1 male and 3 female. If you're going to let nature take its course then go with my first idea. I love your tank idea too!

Thanks for the reply :good:

7-10 males is suicide in my opinion. Male guppies are known to fight each other and can often kill each other. I would suggest 1 male to three females or even 2 males to 6 females. Good luck!

If you have no way to expand to other tanks, a female guppy would be a very poor idea. Several male guppies can be kept together with no trouble. I don't have a clue where the idea of male guppies fighting came from but I have never seen it.

I know that platy males will fight with each other if they don't have females. But, I think getting a 3 females and 1 male is a safe choice.

3 females and a male in a 10 gallon is not a safe choice, it is setting yourself up for a disastrous overpopulation.

Well, if you decide to let nature take its course then you're fine. But if you plan I helping the fry out then I don't know about 3f and 1m
