Here is a link to petco and a little aquarium. There isn't any gallons listed on it so I was wondering if you could guess it for me...

Here it is...

hmm, it looks like a uh, less than a fifteen gallon tank? it says it ways 2 pounds.

unless it's used, some people may not know the volume of there tank. :)

I took out a measuring tape and eyeballed the size, it looks a LOT like the size my 2.5 gallon tank is. So that's my guess, give or take a little.

that calc. said it was 5.02!!! That's good!! It's only 12 bucks and I NEED a quarentine. That bad thing is though a sponge filter costs 12 dollars as well. I could almost get a 10g kit for that :/ .

EDIT:

see, my mom doesn't like for me to spend all that money on fish. She nearly freaked when I came home with my second tank (10g). Then not even a month or so later, I came home with another! If i were to come home with yet another tank, she would shoot me. Especially since the last one was well into the triple digits...

I'd think of getting a ten gallon kit. it makes for a good quarantine tank. 5 is really to small for some of the larger fish. But yours are all livebearers or similair sized fish right? so a five may be fine.

yes all livebearers or smaller.

As of now...

Here is the list I plan to get when my bio spira order comes in...

10 neon tetras
5 white clouds
4 guppies (1 male: 3 female)
5-6 cherry barbs
maybe a pleco (can you suggest one that is quite small after fully grown?)
if not then suggest some other fish that aren;t so delicate. I would love to get a cory, but sadly my gravel is too large...

i'd skip on the pleco to start with (unless you just love the little monsters). really, you don't need an algae eater unless you've got an algae problem.

if you're just going to use it as a quarantine tank, here's an alternative:
  • get an extra 5g bucket. you can store most 5 gallons in a stack; adding one only raises the height about 3"
  • get an extra air pump and airstone
  • get a refill filter insert for the smallest Whisper internal filter.
  • put the Whisper filter media in with your other filter so it can already be colonized w/ bacteria
  • the next time you need a hospital/quarantine, lug out the extra bucket and put in 3~4 gallons clean water
  • take out the Whisper filter media and rinse it w/ tank water to get the gunk off
  • open up the floss pouch and put the airstone inside it, all the way at the bottom.
  • hook it up to the airpump and voila! you've got beneficial bacteria!
  • when you don't need the airpump and airstone, just store it with your other fish stuff
  • the filter media you can either rinse well w/ tap water then dry thoroughly, or you can just toss it
5g buckets are (i think) about 4 bucks in the home improvement section, airpumps are about 7 bucks, airline & an airstone will run you another 2~3 and the filter media are about $2.50 each, but can be bought in self-assemble packages of 4 for about 6 bucks. Per use: less than $20. and it looks very utiliatarian, "serious business" as opposed to "watery fun" (a plus in that Mom probably won't object and you won't be tempted to turn it into a long-term arrangement ;) )

That's a great idea!!! never thought of it.

Now, what could I do for a fry tank, should I decide to save them from being eaten....

NOTE-Will skip pleco

excellant tip pica! :) Unique idea, and cheap since I already have a clean, empty bucket , and air pup, and an airstone. B)
