hi i was just wondering whether anyone could tell me how many fish i could get into a 54 litre tank, so far i have 1 adult platy and 3 baby platies, 2 honey gourami, 1 golden honey gourami, 1 harlequin, 1 guppy 1 red phantom tetra, 3 pearl danio's, 2 neon tetras, 2 rummy nose tetras, 1 common plec, 1 chinese algae eater thanks mark minchin17

Way Way to many Fish. 54L is a 15g.

I would get rid of the Common Pleco. I also would get rid of the Schooling Fish. harlequin, red phantom tetra,2 neon tetras, 2 rummy nose tetras.

I would keep the 1 Adult Platy, 3 Baby Platies,2 honey gourami, 1 golden honey gourami,3 pearl danio's and Algae Eater

I agree with freshwaterlover that you need to rehome some of these fish, though I think I'd make a slightly different selection:

I would get rid of the common plec like he suggested, that's the obvious candicate for departure as it will outgrow the tank

I would also rehome the algae eater- they also grow quite big (though not like the plec), they also get aggressive in their old age

I would also rehome the danios- they are fast swimmers and could do with a bigger tank

I would choose one schooling species- either the harlequin or the red phantom or the neons and get a school of 6 of those; I would rehome the rest

I would rehome the guppy and 2 of the gouramis

This would leave a tank with: 6 harlequins (or tetras), 4 platies, 1 gourami.

I kind of hope that this is a wind up because if not, that stocking list is absolutely shocking. I can't even be bothered to begin to pick apart the mess it's in. The only advice I can give is please start doing some research before doing anything else as you've obviously done none so far. Have a good read through all the pinned topics at the top of this forum and the new to the hobby one and don't be afraid to ask more questions.

:good:

Hi mark minchin17,

I can easily see how tempting it was to buy this interesting selection of fish, but you just bought too many for your tank. :/

It's really a shame that so many lfs sell common plecos. They are such a different looking fish that a lot of hobbyists are tempted to add them to their tanks. Little do they realize that in nature they grow to be this big:

Algae eaters are another species that looks good when it's small, but tends toward bad behavior after maturity.

Your other fish are nice, but the problem is simply that your tank's too small for them. Is an upgrade to a larger tank in your future? If not, you will have to make some changes in the population before nature does it for you.

If you are a relatively new fishkeeper, please read some of the topics in the New To The Hobby section to make sure your tank is properly cycled and safe. If it isn't, the members there will be happy to help you get things right.
