Hi

I know there have been posts regarding how many fish can go in a tank!

But, I have a 45L bio-orb type thing (different make) and I was told about 15 fish could go in.

I have:
6 tiger barbs
2 mollies
algae eater
2 black widow tetras
danio

I lost a danio last weekend and wanted to get the danio that I have a conpanion, I was wondering how many fish I could have and if I could maybe get a danio and 2 more fish of a different type-small ones!

I did have 3 neons also but they died.

Would three more fish overcrowd the tank?

Thanks Becks
:dunno:

The tank isn't big enough for tiger barbs, danios, mollies, or possibly the algae eater, depending what it is. 45l isn't much, plus it's spherical, which gives less surface area. I would assume you put fish in without cycling (ie, you left it for a few days, then added fish). Do you have a test kit?

I am new still learning myself, but I think that tank is already overcrowded.

When I consider the adult lengths of those fish, I get at least 25 inches. I think people around here would recommend you have around 1 fish per gallon of water, so that would be about 12-15 inches of fish.

Since the danio and tetras like company, maybe you can consider going to your local fish store and either trading in the danio for another tetra, or the 2 tetras for 1-2 danios.

Water is fine I check it regularly.

There seems to be loads of room in the tank, I only have one of the small algae eaters, it about 1 1/2 inches and hasnt grown.

So its full enough then, I just thought 1 danio would get lonely and picked on if alone

I was told by a pet shop 15 fish easily, they dont have a clue.

No, it's overstocked. The '15 fish' doesn't take into account the adult sizes- if you have a sailfin pleco as an algae eater, they grow to over 18". Mollies can reach 6", and tiger barbs and danios are too active for a 45l , let alone a 45l bowl. What exacltly do you mean by the water's fine- many a person has said that, wondered why their fish are dying, and then found that ammonia abouve 0 isn't good.

45 L is just below 12 gallons.

Thats alot of fish, the general rule is 1" of fish pergallon. This is taking into effect the adult size of the fish.

How long have you had this tank? can you post the levels the tests you have give you?

not written them down but will do 1 2morr, they all in the range tho

my algae eater is a cat fish, i looked it up in my fish book, says grow to 3 inches, is this right?

I had my tank 4mths so i am pretty new to it all (hence seem like i know FA). I do read up on the fish I buy but think ppl been given me wrong info and comparing my friends dads tank to mine, his is a lot more crowded!

I wanted a bigger tank, maybe its time to invest in one, dont like to think my fish are overcrowded.

I wish I had gone to a fish specialist instead of a pet shop bec they told me tiger barbs ideal and easy to look after etc etc...

I will post my water test values on the web 2morrow

Is a danio going 2 be unhappy by itself? Should I give it away or get another/swap?
