I have a new pair of fire reds and the male is being a tiny bit bossy and chasing the female off his "Patch".

Is this just new tank behaviuor or will it settle down? Should I get another female or maybe two to lessen the mild aggro? He is not beating her to a pulp its just a "get away its my bit of the tank"... the tank is only 60L and I don't want overcrowding.

Thanks for any thoughts

Adding a female may disperse the aggression somewhat, but in 60L you have to be carefull the fish have somewhere to escape the male, which can be hard to achieve. So long as you have a couple of bits of wood and rock in their to clearly set about more than 2 relatively secluded sights not in the other places line of sight you may find it will work.

Apistogramma's arent notoriously brutish, but they can and will chase females about the tank if allowed. Whats your exact stocking in the tank? Knowing this we can advise if its ok to add another female, for the sake of adding one more fish i can't see it being a problem, not unless you have crazy silly stocking currently.
