"]could someone please tell me , how many covicts we should have in our tank, im sure we have far to many
our tank is 14" depth , 31" deep and 18"
wide i think we have about 12, 3 of which are about 3" & 3 white ones 2" long and the rest r still babys no more the 1" long
plus 2 large sucker fish, and 7 other smaller fish[/size]

I'm confused as to the measurements 'is 14" depth , 31" deep and 18'
What is the length, width and height?
Anyhoo really to have 12 cons (adults) you will need atleast a 150 gal! But even then they ill probably be breeding so there will be lots of fighting, deaths etc.

do u know how many i can have in my tank ?

You couldn't really have more than one pair in there, but it's really a bit small for that, too. The general rule is that a tank should be 4-5 times the fish's length long and that would mean, for a fully grown, 6" male, the tank would need to be 24-30" long so your 18" tank is a little small.

For cichlids, it's alll about the length of the tank as they need the area to create territories. The extra height your tank has will help to create more stable water conditions (more water == more stability) but will do nothing for their territories.
