Hi, I'm considering getting some sparkling gouramis in a 30 Litre tank with some pygmy cories. First question, is that enough room for them?

Second question, how loud are they? I know they croak but the tank is my bedroom and I'm a light sleeper, so the croaking could be an issue at night.

Also, how is it best to keep them, singularly, pairs, trios?

i think 8 gals is just about ok with some pgymy cories, i've some in my 10gal and they have plenty of room.

the tank is on my bedside table and i have never once heard them croak let alone be disturbed by them, so i don't think you need to worry about it.

Mine seem to croak quite a bit, but usually in the morning or evening; they've never once woken me up at night and I am also a light sleeper.

from what I can gather the small one only croaks a little *edit*and generally when startled or being aggressive.

I've got the little fellas and havnt heard a peep out of them so far :)

**Ive just re-read my first post and realised what nonsense can be written when my 18 month old was trying to bite my big toe whilst typing!

What i was also trying to say is that when you goto buy then go for te smaller one. Its much better suited to tht tank size and from my experience isnt loud. I hope i make sense now that my son is in bed :)

Thanks. I'm aware that there is the sparkling gourami and the croaking gourami, and the latter is too big for my tank, so if I do decide to get sparkling gouramis I'll be careful and use the latin name to make sure I get the right one. My lfs had both I think.

What about numbers, how do they like to be kept? I am thinking one, two or three, which is best for them?

My sparklings do croak loud enough to be audible from one end of the master bedroom to the other, but it's not very often or much of a problem.

INFO they suggest 4 on here to reduce aggression :D

I have a group of 8 in a 60L with some honey gourami and they are delightful fish. The first time I heard a croak was last night and it's the fisrt time since I got them a few months ago. It's not loud at all and I thought it was a problem with my airpump at first

These are darling little fish and can be Devils in Disgise. I have kept them in different set ups and After my Own experiences will not be keeping these again.

They ganged up on angel fish over 6times there own size and dragged them around by grabbing hold of the ventral fins.

Well I bought my sparkling gouramis today. They only had four left so I bought all four, along with three amano shrimp. They are still floating in the bag at the moment. I also bought some food, Hikari Tropical Micro Wafer, is this good? I've heard good things about Hikari and a micro food seemed suitable for fish so small. Will they also be OK eating betta food? I have a couple of different types, and I am assuming their needs are quite similar? I've read some conflicting stuff about them being carnivores and omnivores, how much veg should I include in their diet? Would they appreciate the occasional algae wafer (broken up)? I'm also going to hatch some brine shrimp soon, I'm assuming they will like them?

Anyway, here's my sparklers:

Very nice looking fish, whenever I see pictures of people's new fish it always makes me want to head to my LFS and get some more :p food sounds good to me but im no expert :)

Thanks. I'm very excited about my new fishies. I've waited a long time for these. I got the tank for Christmas and started cycling in January, but had to move suddenly and couldn't keep the cycle going. Only recently managed to get it sorted.
I've barely seen them since they went into the tank, but I guess they are getting used to it, and the tank is heavily planted and they're so tiny. Still love them though
