How Long?

Intrdouced ADF 4 hours ago to my betta in a 10gallon. One nip from betta in first hour and then nothing. Had a stand off 10 min ago with both nipping and flaring at each other. Let them have it out for the minute or best to remove frog? How long is it normal for both to adjust?

What did you do before adding the frog?
Whom is nipping whom?
When did you last feed?
Pic of the tank possible? There may be a lack of shaded spots

Congrats on the frog they are gorgeous and really inquisitive once they have settled in took mine 4-5 weeks before they would actively venture into the tank in full tank light although that comes with risks for the other tankmates:

Did the usual of adjusting frog to temp etc before adding, Calcifer was inquisitive. Added all seemed good, they clashed at one point going for air and Calcifer gave a curious nip.

Calcifer then discovered the frog again two hours later and was flaring at it, gettting closer and closer flaringtill nose to nose where frog nipped (gently) Calcifers nose. Frog lunged once more when he got too close. Calcifer nipped back.

Frog is not so hidden in the fake upside down fern I have and Calcifer still shows curiosity.

Calcifer was fed this morning, oh and just before frog went in.

Here is a piccy.

There is the terracotta pot on the left (frog likes), moss ball left (frog likes) and hidden at the back a small ceramic house (which Calcifer has taken an immense interest in). Also top left a half submerged bottle as near surface resting point.

Have a small 2g that can set up for the frog if necessary just wont have substrate, some decs and will get small heater no filter.

Personally i would move the frogs out- betta's (particularly the males) can be temperamental and aggressive fish, it looks like your one is particularly territorial and it would probably be best for both parties if they were separated .

If it was just before the frog was put in it is likely he thinks it is food. Leave them together frogs have very poor eyesight so rely on smell to hunt if the frog bit its only because he smelt a fish and thought he had the oppurtunity to swallow it like a fry doubt it actually new it was trying to tackle a 3" fish. If they are no better tomoz remove it.

thanks lots saltynay! Will give an update tomorrow. Calcifer is "curiosty killed the cat" fellow. The little lbue house never thought in a billion years he would go near it and be ideal for the frog, Calcifer now loves it

Here is the pic of my silly fellow (he is learning the pointed finger at him means NO! which currently works if he is being naughty ) yep you think I am mad!

I am hoping it is just curiosty. Klaus the frog is really sweet and I am smitten with both.

On the depth of the water line from the top of the tank could either leap? I have a temporary measure for the lid handmade but wondered if both would be ok or if it is a risk?

To mine pointed finger means come here on the glass or obstacle course if hand in the water or if a single finger in the water its tickle time. My tanks have no lids and I have had no jumpers so far my male betta use to like to jump but since moving to his new home he hasn't once, the frogs need a flat stable surface to jump from by what I have read however my 4 have never showed any interest in climbing to the top of the filter and attempting a jump from that which is only an 1" from the waters surface.

p.s. thanks saltynay thats at least 2 pos 3 inches so should be good! lol bettas are clever little things arent they? Klaus still getting used to life, glad have him as he was getting konked over the head by the lady catching him with the net poor babes. I hope to keep him safe now

Well they both seem to be getting on better. Calcifer is still curious but is learning to respect his distance. The frog ate this morning but the leftovers were gorged by Calcfier. Any further tips to use on feeding the ADF. Mainly going to be feeding bloodowrm how muhc should he have a day? Thanks for everything guys!
