how long will it take

im going to put my brothers filter piece with loads of bacteria in my tank im wondering how long will it take to cycle when is it safe to put fish in (i also have things that will kill all the corleen and stuff like that )

it will be an almost instant cycle, just remember to get the water to the right temperature otherwise you will kill all the bacteria in your brother's filter pad.

I have used this technique for every new tank i have done and have had fish in the tank within 24 hrs.

you can basically add fish as soon as you add the filter media

don't wait too long (not more than 12-24 hours) to add fish after the filter media otherwise the bacteria will starve!

add 3 or 4 fish in there and then add 1 or 2 every week or two

If the filter has been established, the bacteria will not starve, there will be enough waste in the sponge for the bacteria to survive. If you are not confident, you just need to add some fish food to the tank to keep the cycle going.

Although as said, make sure you add fish fairly slowely otherwise you will crash the cycle..
