Hello! My betta fish recently had ich, or white spot disease. I treated him from day one with medication, but he unfortunately passed away on Monday. Since then I have drained my tank completely, washed everything in very hot water, and allowed the tank, tech, decor, and gravel to sun dry. How long will it be until I can begin to recycle my tank? I know ich dies after 48 hours without a host, but I want to make sure I am not cutting any corners.

You could also turn the temperature up in your tank. (If you have an adjustable heater of course)

It makes Ich hard to survive if the temperature is higher than normal. But @Colin_T pretty much nailed it. ;)

Unfortunately my heater stays at 80 degrees, is there an adjustable heater you would recommend? I want to be more prepared if this happens again. I currently have a 3.5 but I want to work up to a 5 gallon soon.

I like Interpet Internal Heaters. I have 1 in my 29g and it has been running smoothly for a long time. I'm not sure if they make one for a 3g tank though. I'll do some research and get back to you.

I just looked them up, they do! Thank you so much.
