a month in on my puffer tank and i had a bit of a disaster, well total disaster.

the first lot of puffers i got had white spot so i treated the tank, occupied by 1 knight goby and 3 figure 8 puffers.

two weeks later the fish started dying one by one. water peramiters were 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 20 nitrates.

after taking one of the dead puffers to my LFS and having it and the water examined under the microscope it appears that there were no parasites or obvious reasons for the deaths.

the only possibility is that i overdosed the white spot treatment which stressed the fish causing them to not eat for a week and suddenly die off.

The last fish died last thursday and since then i have done a 30% water change and left the tank for the last 5 days fishless as advised by the LFS.

the water paramiters are still stable so i was wondering when i should start restocking with new fish.

Thats such a shame with your little babies!! :(

I reckon once the 5 days has passed, maybe test it out with a few cheapish, small fish and see it goes :)

i was told that the tank would be fine sitting empty for 5 days but i am a bit concerned that the lack of ammonia will have meant that ive lost a lot of the bacteria in my filter.

can anyone advise on this?
