if u have a quarinten quarentine qorintiean how ever u spell it tank. how long should u leave the fish in there before u put them in u reagular tank??

This would have made great poll question!

Some people say they dont, some say 1 week and so on!

I'd say anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks, but I admit sometimes I do not quaruntine(sp?) I have been lucky

If I know the breeder, 2 weeks. Unknown source, 4 weeks.

kew, preciat it. i usually dont quarin. when i buy from my regular lfs. but theres a new place open with a lot bigger variety of fish. but u never know how good they take care of the tanks.

yea just incase. never realy know id just hate to take the chase of gettin my whole tank sick , u know.

A minimum of three days if you want to be cautious. A week is better and two weeks is ideal though after a week, usually you'll find out whether the fish have something or not. The extra week is just an extra precaution in case there's something slow to reveal itself.

I'll have my newly aquired Khulis in quarantine for at least a week though if they show signs of good health, I might let them out early, or if they look sickly or stressed still, another week to be safe.

Even the best breeders have problems with diseases on occasion. I'd hate to see my regular tanks get infected with something 2 weeks down the road, just as the person I got them from starts to have the same problem. One guy got really insulted when he found out I had a couple of his fish in quar. Oh well, when he comes by to medicate & care for my fish, I'll quit my quarintine procedure.

Listen to Tolak....he is the fish guru :) He has saved my fish on a lot of occasions

3 days on nowhere near long enough....2-3 weeks is standard for me....

Though there was an exception to that rule this weekend when I moved my new peacock cichlids into the 75 after only a week quarantine....the buggers were too big and aggro for the 10gal for any longer...

And how many fish have you had that came down with something only after a week in quarantine?

AS I SAID....

The peacock cichlids I had in the 10 gal were moved earlier than I normally would due to their aggression levels....they would have killed each other if in there any longer....

AND AS I SAID....

My "normal" routine is 2-3 weeks depending on where I buy the fish from

That is true. Depending on who the suppliers are, some will sell sick fish they know are sick to the shops, who in turn get them and may or may not know they have sick fish and sell them to the customers. Any half-way decent shop will keep an eye on their recent stock though if only for good repeat business.

Well my Lfs, whom I love. Operates almost the same amount of tanks in the rear (where customers are not freely allowed), as in the front.

The other day we were talking about discus, some small ones they had for sale, then he was like you wanna see this big momma in the back, of course I said yes.

Took me in back, and there were a bunch of tanks in the back. So they keep new stock back there b4 bringing them to front for sale. i was really impressed
