Iv placed a sponge filter (up to 50L with a 60L air pump) in my main tank 120L that has been running for 9months+.
I just would like to know if it will still take a month or so to cycle the sponge filter.
Its only going to be for a planted shrimp tank 54L.

Iv have about 50x CRS baby's that need moving asap.

will take about a month to cycle thoroughly.

If you want can u tranfer some media from your cycled filter to the new one?

How would I do that?

If you take some of the filter media (sponge stuff) from the main filter and add it to the cycling filter some bacteria may be transferred, speeding it up.

???, its a sponge filter ie air driven hw can they transfer media over?,

OP, it will take roughly 4-5 weeks to mature properly, could be longer be usually less.

hope that helps :)

Thanks matey iv lost some CRS babys all ready but what can you do.

Tye or otherwise attach some cycled media to the outside of the sponge filter. Another trick, for fry or other lightly stocked tanks is to take some mature gravel from the surface of the mature tank. Place this on top of the sponge filter, it will give enough bio filtration for fry, which are about shrimp size. This will transfer nitrifying bacteria in the process. You don't want to skim more than about 1/2" deep for the gravel.

More frequent water changes.

Am losing them to fish not bad water stats.
