I gave up keeping them because they they will either die in the first few weeks or be fine for months then one day get sick and die in the space of a few days. I found the balloon ones tend to be hardier and the large brightly coloured the least. Even when I've got the German strain they they still died after a few months.

So please share your Ram experiences :good:

I had 3 GBR and 2 Boliv's, who were happy and healthy with me for around 6 months, I then re-stocked my tanks and gave them all to a fellow TFF member who has now had them for over a year and they are still happy and healthy he reports to me :D

Sometimes it depends on the stock you get them from as to their success, other times it dependent on the water conditions, no necessarily any amm/nit but ph, acidity/alkalinity of water as to whether you can keep them successfully.

I have had a breeding pair for about a year and a few months and they still breed every 8 days. my water is always 0,0,0. forgot to mention the PH is 8.0 temp is also 83

I house them with 2 otto's. the GBR male is 2.7" and female is almost 2" maybe 1.8".

Never more than a Few Months. Agree that the Balloon's Lasted longer then the normal ones.

Yep all 5 of them are as healthy as ever :)

I had mine for over a year and they were fully grown when I got them - so you never know how old they are when you get them do you?

i have 3 rams atm.
one pair of balloon ram and one golden ram.
the balloon pair is about to breed.
her egg tube just dropped last night when i turned to the temp to 31 C 88 degrees her belly really big and bright purple ish red.

I had 2 blue Balloon ram males. One killed the other. Then a year later when I added my keyhole to the mix the other one died from stress. Those Balloon rams are crazy. So I had my one dominate Balloon rams for about a year.

Then I had a really cute Bolivian ram that I only had a month till my male blue acara killed it. Grrrrr I just sold that fish today. SO I'm going to get another Bolivian ram on Friday it should go better this time no bigger mean fish to kill it.
