Hi

had a pair of Bolivian Rams for 3 months. When introduced they didn't pair and the male always use to chase the female off whenever she came near his half of the tank.

Recently this behaviour has changed to the point were he no longer chases her off & they spend more time near each other. He is about 2" with decent colouring, where the female is still quite young only about 1-1½".

There was a lot of 'lip locking' at first, but not so much now.

Is there any chance of them pairing over time? or if they haven't done by now, that it game over?

They may never pair, you are better off getting a group of 5 and letting them pair naturally rather than forcing a pair.

Understood that at the time of buying these 2, but at £8 a go i didn't want to drop £40 to get 1 pair, especially as the LFS around here aren't too keen on returns.
Not too bothered if they don't pair, just wondered.

Really £8? thats very steep for Bolivians, don't any of your other lfs's stock them? they go for £2.50 here and are as common as convicts!

Tell me about it.only 2 out of the 3 local LFS have/had them.Same price (ish) in both.Dwarf SA Cichlids don't seem very cheap around here.Apisto's (when you can find them) are pretty much the same price.
You would be N.London?

I have a similar situation with my jade eyeds. They seem friendly and always have done, but will they spawn? Will they heck as like! Not too fussed though as the aggression that goes with it is waaaay to much hassle to deal with in a tank with other fish in.

Are you using a Maidenhead Aquatics? i find them the best stockist for Cichlids but they are the most overpriced shops around, i recently bought a 1.5" Aureus for £8 and a 2" Honduran redpoint for £10
