I have a pregnant sunset platy that seem to be dropping for almost 2 weeks already. From the first batch of fry - three survived and doing really well (already swimming with adults in the open). Then I have another three of slightly less than a week old and today I'm still noticing very new fry and platy hides from time to time in the bushes of the plants (I have plenty and that's where all the fry are hiding). She still looks big, so I wonder is this normal? I thought it pretty much happens during one day... Thanks.

What else do you have in the tank?
I've had fry when none of them looked particularly pregnant, so maybe some of your other fish have dropped too?

Well, I have 3 sunset platies (2 females, 1 male), 2 red wagtail platies (1 also pregnant female, 1 male) and 3 guppies.
The fry is definitely not guppies and not red, so it has to be sunset platies. I haven't noticed the other female being pregnant, but even if first drop was hers - I distinctively see three sizes of fry in the tank, so at least one of them has to be dropping with a week (or may be slightly less) interval...

It can take a few weeks before fry develop strong coloring. It wasn't until they were about 3 weeks old that my red wags really got that deep orange coloring.

I have a batch of Platy fry 9 days old, some of them have a more red colour than others, & some are slightly larger than others.
I think you've maybe had a couple of females drop quite close to each other

Ok, good points. I still think its just two sunset ones though as I see two dots by the transparent tail (as one of the mothers has). Wags just have black tail without dots...

Also with the Red Wags, because of their dark color, they do really exhibit as deep of a gravid spot as lighter colored females. The best way to tell is if they look fat lol. I have 2 red wag females, a sunset female, a bumble bee female, and a panda female. I have never been a able to see the gravid spot on my red wags. they are too deep of a red.

You have 3 female platies, and 3 distinct sizes of fry. Unless there's something wrong with the internals of the females, then I think the answer is the obvious one.

Platies, (as most livebearers do) deliver fry (approximately 25 to 55 at a time - depending on the size of the female) at approximately 27 - 30 day intervals - depending on your water temperature..... Though the fry are experts at hiding..... the adults are just as expert in seeking them out and eating them...... if any of the fry survives the first 30 minutes..... it is likely that they will continue to survive till adulthood....... Once you have a number of fry swimming around with the adults, the chances of subsequent broods surviving is greater.....

Well, my red wag one is still pregnant - as can see her being very fat especially from the top...

wow i never knew that so if i just left them in the end they would of stopped eating them? 30 min rule means nothing to my fish their savage little gits lol
