How long does it take for convict fry to be free swimming? I would have already known because another pair of my cons had some fry about 2 weeks ago but they ate them. So i have some wrigglers right now and its goin great i just need to know when they will be free swimming.

Within the week you will see a huge improvement in them and as long as the parents dont reject the bact they should be free swimming. Convicts will usually fail in there first couple of attempts before they get it right. I've had Cons eat there fry several days after they hatched. HIH

I have another question i am going to keep the fry with their parents, what do i feed them? I have seen the parents spitting out food though their gills after i feed them are they feeding the fry this? I also have "Hikari First Bites" will this do, or will i have to feed them something else?

Finely crushed flake food and cucumbers has worked great for me....What do you plan to do with your new fry? I just ask because it can become overwhelming.

thanks Vip B)

ok thanks do, how can I get the finely crushed food directly down to the fry? With the cucumber do you set it near the fry and they eat it? I plan on using some as feeder fish, my friend said he would take a couple, and the rest I will give to my lfs.

ok i will use that but since it takes a day or 2 for the brine shrimp to hatch is it ok to use the "Hikari First Bites" it is a finely crushed powder, but how would i get it down to the fry? Also about the cucumber how would i use that, would i just put it down next to the fry?

Someone PLEASE RESPOND TO THE REPLY I JUST ADDED I DONT WANT THEM TO DIE!!!!

First bites will work....and i usually use a small boiled rock to make my cucmber sink...I usually just put the food in the current coming off my filter and it gets to the fry no problem...Dont be to worried...for fry they are tough little buggers.

Well, actually i am having second thoughts. I was thinking of trying to catch the fry in a net and move them into a smaller contraption. Will this affect the pair from having more fry? Should i go ahead and move them?

if you move the fry too soon, the parents will likely attack eachother thinking that one of them ate the fry

Ok great do you think they will spawn again after i remove the fry?
