Oh yeah I almost forgot the ph in the tank i will move the fry into is lower than the current tank they are in now is that ok?

you might have fry loss and then again you might not but it is best to transfer some of the water with them form there tank.

So what would you recommend? I was thinking of getting a cup and mixing both of the tanks water and put the fry in there for a little then dump them in there. Will this work?

well i would sort of acclimatize it slowely, by adding more and more water to the container slowely

This morning I came to check on my cons and the female is just laying on the ground she barely moves, but then she went into the flower pot nad was swimming around in circles. I think she is going to die :byebye: . Could it have anything to do with me moving the fry? It has to be. The male is fine. PLEASE HELP!!!

I dont thin kits the loss of fry....Ive taken fry from my cons pretty early before and while they were pissed...they never seemed to be affected by it. Whats your water readings? Convicts are very hardy and can tolerate a wide range of water quality....Does she look like shes been "damaged"? I only ask because my male convict will usually flip out and attack the female once their fry are free swimming. I currently have to seperate the pair and let the male do all the protecting. HIH

My readings are perfect I test it every week. I didnt see the male doing anything to her, but you never know.

:X :X this is what mine did the firts time too, but not as bad, obviously the make thot the female ate them and thot he would try and kill her :( thats crappy, i guess it was too soon

my cons laid eggs yesterday

She died :-( . Yeah it really is crappy. Now it is only the male in the tank. Do you think I should get some more females and let him pair off? Or should I try a different type of american cichlid there are alot of options, what kind would be aboe to go with him? Congrats on the eggs :) !

what size tank we talking...sorry if i missed it in the thread...Cons..males especially are nasty little buggers...If you want to try your hand at breeding again then i would get 3-4 more females...take the existing con out and re-arrange the tank...then introduce them all at the same time. Hopefully this will work and you can spot a pair...just make sure you can return the odd balls when your sure...Sorry about your loss :(

No Im not mad I probably would have tried to move the fry anyways. I was thinking of getting a jack dempsey, how do I tell the difference in sex in the jack dempsey?

hard to tell when they are small but when they are larger maybee about 4" the females will have alot more jewels on there gill plates
