How Long Does Bogwood Last?

well, probably around 10+ years

ive had mine 4 years, still same size with 30 baby plecos chomping on it

Mine usually starts turning manky after around 2 years and gets binned. There's only so much scrubbing you can do to get algae off before it starts getting damaged.

Also, if you have plecs that require wood in their diet, the wood needs replacing around every 6 months - max a year.

It depends on the size of the piece and what kind it is, i have some 4" thick solid lumps of mopani that have been in my tanks for 5 years or more but have had thin pieces of malasian root rot down to dust within a year. All in all i would say that your average aquarium sized piece of bogwood will last a minimum of 4 years (unless your a fuss pot like bloo and you cant stand a bit of algea growth :p ) except for when wood eatling Loricarid species are present when as bloo rightfully pointed out it will need to be added to or changed every 6 months as the lignum in the wood will be exhausted.

Mine has been the same size and shape for 4 years now and been in a few different tanks. When I had relatives round they were like wow where did you get a piece exactly the same as the last piece and im like well its the same piece...

It is a normal piece of bogwood and i have no animals who eat it, its just for decor. Will it ever go bad?

Me ? Fusspot ? ;) lol

I actually like the change of scenery too, to be honest. But the longest I've ever kept a piece was 3 years.

It will eventually go rotten but more so than other times people just want to change the tank and think lets get rod if this wook and have something else. Although when I do that, the wood goes in another tank
