I read they live from 2-3 years but met someone whose Betta was 7 years old! Also read posts of Bettas living 5 years. Are these the exceptions to the rule or is the 2-3 year wrong? My Betta is just over a year old now and still looking great. Hopefully he will live a long time! Kinda attatched to him!

The Standard time that most books etc say is 2-3 years.
But my mum had a Betta at her vets that was over 7 yrs old he wasn't the most active fish but he was doing pretty well.

I think it depends on fish, life & care

I read an article recently that Bettas kept in slightly colder temperatures (and less activity) live much longer (most of the fish in the study were living up to 10 years). Fish in warmer temperatures seem to, in a sense, age faster and they die in 2-3 years. I thought it was interesting, but I'll still keep my fishies in the warmer temps.

I have heard about that also. Warmer temps mean faster metabolism and faster lifespan. Interesting.
Thanks for the replies!

I like them being active too, so warmer waters it is! Also, colder water slows down the metabolism and makes them to prone to infections and stuff eeeeeek!

Active and healthy lifestyle is the way to go - even if it is shorter =(
