How Local Wal Mart Takes Care Of Bettas

Well Daz I hope you're right for the sake of those bettas but I swear I have seen similar conditions as the long-term housing for bettas on sale in a local chain store... they've all got either ich or columnaris, so you pick your rescues based on which meds you've got basically cause they're all gunna die otherwise.

how about closing this? becuase there are so many threads like this and the keep comming up. yes it is shameful and yes we would all like to help, but the business needs to make money and if thats how they do it then so be it. if you 'rescue' the bettas then the shop thinks they are selling so will get more and more in, they are not here to make friends............

The shops sell anyway, bettas are so cheap that people buy them and when they die because of ammonia poisoning they just go and buy another one. The attitude is that bettas are disposable fish that can only be expected to live a few months at best. Not rescuing does not have enough of an impact on sales figures to reduce irresponsible breeding of the fish to be treated like that. Rescuing does give some bettas a decent life.

I was so tempted to bring home another six boys yesterday.

Unfortunately, lack of tank space prevented me doing so.

However, compared to Wal-Mart, they were living in luxury. 30 litre tanks with Corys as tank mates.
