How Do You Sex Pearl Gouramis ?

We have 4 Pearl Gourami fish in our community Tank. We think we have 2 of each sex but..

How do you tell 100% which is male and female ?

the male will eventually grow long extensions on the fins and the female wont

If you google male and female pearl gouami, you will clearly see the difference between the two. The male is much more colourful and his fins are longer than the female. The colours of the male will turn very dark with iridescent purple, blue and orange. The female stays more of a silver to the body and lighter orange on the anal fins. The male will get long serated looking anal fin and his dorsal fin will be longer and more pointy than the female, her fin is more rounded.

also when mature the male will develop a red throat whereas the female wont . this is the most reliable way with pearls

They all look the same to me, but 2 of them are certainly friendly.

If they all look the same, they are either juvenile or you have all one sex.

Hi,

Look like we do now have at least one male as one of the Gouramis is clearly showing signs of a red throat.
