Hi all just wondering what system most use for describing tank size, us or imperial
Im used to litres.
Eg does a minimum 40 gal home mean us or imperial :S

Thanks alot

no ive got the formulas just wondering when info says a fish regquires say 30 gal does that mean imperial or us theres a big dif

there is no fish, just researching some replacements for my tank, for example using the widly used oscar = 55 gal is that us or imperial (no im not gatting an oscar)

It depends on who is saying it, If an american was replying to a question i asked and he said 20gallons i would presume he ment US gallons, Idealy everyone should put if it is US or imperial eg. 20USGallons and 20ImpGallons something like that.

most definately agree, still even my little tank, which i now call 3 ft to save hassels, there is a 10 gallon difference. I guess it would be smart to rely on the imperial just for safety sake,
dont want any overstock mishaps

cheers all, stay happy, stay cool, stay hardcore do this little dance :kana: :kana: :kana:

I'm Canadian, and altho we have the metric system, i always talk about tanks in US gallons... but it looks like most members are from the UK, so i'll try to make a habbit of typing "US Gallons"

thanks nethius,
i wonder how many problems this has caused? or maybe im the only one oh well thanks for your help all clear now.

Being a crazy american myself, I always mean US gallons. I didn't even know there was an Imperial gallon. I thought that countries using the metric system would have liters. Thanks for teaching me something new!
