Male guppies are usually very colorful and have large tails. Females are usually very plain in color. You can tell if they are pregnant usually because they have a dark spot near their anal fin which will get bigger and dark the farther along they are. They are also usually very plump when they are pregnant or about to drop the fry.

unless you bred the female yourself and know it has never been introduced to a male, it is safe to say that your female guppy is always pregnant.
