just curious but how do you know your bio filter is working?
mine is built with the tank - aquaone 850 - and am just curious to how do you know its working? cos if you open the lid all you see is water being sprayed into the biostrate and being filtered, - is there something beyond this?
and how do you know your filter is really working?
and will getting a canister help get rid of the mini air bubbles? and occassionally free flying stuff?

If ammonia and nitrites are 0 in a cycled tank I think it would be pretty fair to say your filter is working!

Yup that's all you need to worry about...As long as your parameters are stable then your bio filter is too..... :D

if you dont have any fish in the tank just add a few drops of ammonia( just enough so you get an ammonia reading with your test kit). Then tomorrow same time test for ammonia again. There should none or at least less. If its the same then the bio filter is not working. HTH :)

yeah that was what i was thinking, the magic power of the biostrate -
