Hey guys! I've been looking around this forum, and people keep mentioning frag swaps and groups and stuff. But how do you find them and get involved? I haven't found much for my area (Minneapolis/St. Paul). Are they usually safe for teenagers? Do teenages ever attend your guys' meetings?

Try doing an internet search for "Greater Minnesota Reef Society", you should find what you need that way. In general reefkeeping aquarists are great people. I've yet to meet anyone in the hobby that I didnt like and everyone I have met seems to have a kind heart. Probably has something to do with the tremendous amount of care we give our reefs, but suffice it to say, reefkeepers are great and special people and I know if I had one, I would encourage my teenage son/daughter to attend any local fragswaps or meetings. :good:

As Ski mentioned, deffinately find a society in your direct local area. Im 20, and Im welcome at my Societies meetings (online and shop crawls), and I know 2 reefers under 15mins away (good for emergencies). There is also another 20 something year old there, who goes to my University, whos also keen on SPS. If you find a local society, go for it. Dont feel intimidated because of your age, most people are really welcoming and nice. Ive been to about 3 peoples houses now, and they've come to mine (might wanna get parent permission before anything like that though LMAO).

Look what a quick Google search found!

TCMAS (Twin Cities Marine Aquarium Society) Tries to have 4 a year (I know I hosted the first one, hehe).

One of them will be at Dr. Fosters and Smith each summer. They host an AMAZING event.

http://tcmas.org/ The site is old, but the new one is being worked on :)

There are a lot of old salty dogs in the Twin Cities.
