How Do You Find Your Pet Shop Assistants?

How do you find your pet shop assistants? Well my one is very stupid he, will promise U the world, but never delivers, he says what ever you need from him it will be in the next day then when I go back to him it’s next week. Now the thing is that I’m looking for a light for my tank for the last 12 Months

No.1 excuse was that the girl who had the key to the office was on holidays and when I came back after her the day after her holidays, “she was out sick”

No.2 light was on its way from Youghal which is about 30 miles away from Cork City ‘never arrived’

Then I wanted testers for the tank and he said the 2 testers were €32.00 and when I went back to get my light I asked him about the testers He baffled me into a double tester Kit which cost me €70..00 I went back to him and got back €36.00 back it is now a year and half later and I’m still waiting for the light

I've got a good choice near me but I recently went to The Big Blue near Caerphilly and spoke to the manager, he was spot on, really knew his dwarf cichlids, great attitude, patient with my beginner questions and he was clearly full of passion for the hobby
Highly recommend a visit to anyone who is local.

Oh by the way my son (Oisín-Twin) is dealing with him as well, he bought a tank off him it took 3 to 4 visits to the shop before it eventually arrived. As well as that my son has ordered a bed for his dog that has not come in he was told come in at 5.30 pm my son said “do you really want me to call back in half an hour” NO Way;;; now as soon as we are finished with him that’s the end of him. And my other son (Cian-Twin) after the assistant laughed into Oisín’s face after selling some kind of killer fish [I will find out the full story later] HE Never stepped foot in that shop again

Yes there are a few pet shops around town so we will be going to them from now on their is a Maxi-Zoo near us; They were great when they opened their doors first 'had everything you needed' all sorts of Tanks, Stones, Fish, and ALL the Peripherals BUT as they sold out on stock they never replaced them it looks liks an ordenary shop now

Had very bad experiences with shop assistants.Mostly in my own country.
In England where i live now still no problems.But also because of all my past disapointments with shop's i do a lot of research before buying something,and mostly i buy it online.All my equipment,tank,cabinet,lighting,co2 system,fertile soil,and gravel was bought online. My online experience so far is great.
But returning to the business at hand as far as local shops go there is one i need to praise.Dunno if i can say the name here in the forum (some forums i've been before do not allow publicity to shops), but it's in london where i live now.
Been there this week to buy my first fishes for my new tank,they asked everything about my tank,setup,water testing results, and i mean everything that could affect my choice of fish and to find out how much knowledge i really have of what i was doing.
I was going to buy some rummy nose and neon tetras and i want to make shoals of them so my plan was to buy alot of them but they told me straight away that shops policy is not to sell any shoal fish unless the amount of fish taken is enough to really make one.
After that the girl gave some really good advice on how to optimize the usage of my co2 trough my tank.Some more advice on what to do so my fish would not be so stressed while moving to my tank.
In the end she lost half an hour just with me and i left the shop a happy costumer. Another employee even asked me to put the evolution of my tank online with some photos and tell him for them see how good i was doing.I never had that kind of commiment to me or the fishes from any shop before. Usually its just about the money.

I have a LFS and ordering from them is a nightmare so now stopped, mainly plants, kept saying will be in on Thursday, so you turn up and plants not in this carried on for 4 weeks, so give up, I'm still waiting for a custom made hood to take 2 light, day and night, been waiting for this for 2 months so told him to forget it, fish they promise me not never got. So being the only LFS apart from pets at home I now started to use the internet a lot. This LSF use to be very good as it was opened up in the early 80's but since change of hands it as gone downhill

I have vowed not to go back to one of my LFS. Luckily I have three within a 15 mile radius of home. Went in and there were eight dead Guppies in one tank, four in another, three in another... Most of the 'live' ones were only just clinging on to life. Got told 'yeah - they just came in. They're from a new supplier and they keep dying. We clear out the dead ones every half hour'... Wow. That's quite some mortality rate. They were up for sale - not 'not for sale - acclimatising' like other stores seem to do - he actually offered to sell me some! I said no - not interested as they all looked sick.

A large number of tanks had dead fish in. Assistant asked if I was interested in any other fish and what was I planning for my tank. I said I wanted a community tank - Neons, Guppies & Endlers for now. Was told I couldn't keep Endlers with Guppies as they weren't compatible. I'm only a novice and will happily admit it, but I did wonder if this were true - after all, everything I'd researched said they will cross-breed given the chance. I asked if he was sure, because they can crossbreed, and he said he didn't realise. Needless to say, due to the (lack of) health of their fish I wasn't going to buy anything!

Went to another LFS (same chain, different store) - they said yes, Guppies & Endlers can fight, if you have too many males vs. females - but that's true if you have just Guppies, just Endlers, or a mix - the wrong balance of males/females is what causes the problems. Have had male & female Endlers and Guppies together with no problems... Except the Guppy males are only interested in Guppy females, and the Endlers are interested on anything female! Have more Guppy females now so they aren't too harassed!

So... Do I trust the store where the assistant seemed to know less than me and where there were more dead fish than alive? Nah - I'll pass thanks!
