USA,
I know that my lfs is arip off, charging 16.99 for a 1/2 inch l. occelatus, as Ive seen them on the net for $4, and they seem to be easy to breed, so the prices shouldnt be so high.

I want to find a place that they may have gone to see what the prices of that place sells the fish for. But I have no idea how to do it.

How would I go about this? Ive used google, but nothing came up.

True true, find out where they get there stock then you can take advantage from there.

I actually stumbled across a supplier site the other night.

I was trying to decide what fish to pick and discovered I could order stuff in batches of a few hundred! Will try and find it again, but I think it was a UK one.

Hmm would still be intrested to see the site.. Doubt they ship internationally

Look for a local aquatics club, become a member.

Aquatics clubs would be a good idea, i didnt know that there were benefits such as finding wholesalers or fish breeders for cheap fish. Thats quite intresting i will have to check that out.

There are around 60 active members in the club I'm in. At least half are breeders, pretty evenly divided between livebearers, catfish, & angels, with a few discus guys. Fish at the small meeting auctions go for half a buck to $3 each. At the larger auction last fall, the discus breeders got killed, nice dollar size discus going for $12 to $15. Best deals around.

Wow pretty awesome stuff, Is your club part of a bigger thing and your part of the chicago branch im curious i live in nyc and i would love to find something like that.

There are no clubs in my state as far as I know for the fish that I like, ie Tang cichlids. Just angelfish.

And the store is to far away to get a job there, but Id love to. I know that they did just hire a new person, who Ive herd is really obese, and may not fit in the isles, so they may have to fire her.

become freindly with a lfs and then ask the name of the wholesalers etc they get fish from

I used to work for my lfs and I've still got a copy of the order book that they use. It's like £1 each for some of the fish if they but loads of them. The only thing they don't make money on is the stuff they don't stock and that's how you save money there don't know about the other lfs' but it's worth a try.
