Hi, i've just got some frozen bloodworm and was wondering if i should thaw it all out first and clean away the dirty ice instead of just throwing it in the tank?

Also, do i just use one cube for each day i feed them bloodworm? -_-

Sorry to sound so stupid!

I have a tea strainer (plastic one) and put all my frozen food in there and run it under the tap until it has thawed out. How much you feed depends on how many fish you have. i have a heavy stocked tank and i mostly feed one cube.
hope this helps.

I use a test tube, fill it with tank water then put as much of the cube as i need in it. Swirl it around until all the worms are free floating (about 5 mins) then you can either empty the contents in the tank, or you could use a pipette to suck them up, and squirt them into a specific area of the tank.

I've got 5 neons and 3 platies (One may be pregnant but i'm not sure) so i'm kinda unsure about how much of this i should be using.

just wait for it to defrost and dump it in, make sure nothing is frozen though. that q tip looks gross!

Edit: neons will eat like 1-3 worms, depending on how big they are. not sure about platies though.

ok so i'm thinking i might cut each cube in half and feed half each day i use it. I'm only feeding my fish once a day each morning.

when i was feeding just a small number of tetra with blood worms i would use a knife and scrape of just a very small amount from the cube and then deforst it in a little bit of tankwater ina test tube. swirl it around for abit and then tip it in near them. they didnt need to much of it.

Oops, I have never been told to thaw it first.

What is the problem with letting it thaw out in the tank itself?

You would be fine feeding less expensive flake food too, I use the eyedropper pipite method or jsut drop it in the tank but that makes a mess

i wish i'd read about this earlier. after only feeding my tetras flakes, i decided to treat them to some frozen bloodworm. I thawed one square and put it in. needless to say, i have 10 tetras (Glowlights/Cardinals) going round with bulging stomachs!! Hopefully they'll be right, maybe no more feeding for a while.
