I have added some neon tetras today to my danios. When it came to feeding time, I sprinkled a few flakes in the top and as usual the danios gobbled them all up in no time. The neons didnt get anything. I added one or two more smaller flakes and of course, the danios quickly ate those too. So I thought, be crafty! I had some pelleted food which I sprinked in which slowly sank. The neons went for this, but it was way too big for their mouths. Some of them swam around sucking on a pellet.

How can I make sure the neons get their food?

I have the same problem with my cardinals, which are very shy about coming up to the top for food. What works for me is after everybody else eats, I add some flakes and splash them towards the cardinals to make them sink in front of them. Just be sure not to overdo it as you don't want a lot of food reaching the bottom

You can also try hikari micropellets. If you release them just underwater, they'll slowly sink, and they're small enough for the tetras to swallow. I also feed live blackworm 2-3 times a week. The worms live at the top of the travel, sticking their heads out for food. Most of my fish that don't get a fair shot at regular feedings make off like bandits hunting worms.

Just learned a top tip from an experienced breeder. For feeding little fish, put your pellets in a pepper grinder!! (Not one with pepper in of course!!)
