Hey all. I was wondering how all of you feel about breeding different tail types. Like breeding a double tail, and a crowntail. Is this a bad thing to do, or does it depend on what kind of tail types they are? Like the double tail and a crowntail would that be bad? What are your opinions on this?Need some quick responses. Thanks for reading

Well I think this is how it works: DT + SingleTail = SingleTail Dt geno and if you breed those with a DT boy you get Dts o_o i am not sure lol you should ask Synirr but you just bred your CTs >.> think you should wait a bit before spawning again

So are you saying you are for or against that idea? Oh dont worry its just there are these two or three bettas on this website that I wanted but did not know if I should or should not breed them because one is a DT male and the other CT female, but there is another DT female that I really liked and if you couldnt breed DT and Ct then I would get the female DT. But trust me I wouldnt be breeding these fish for a while. They are young they and I can wait :) .

Ok cool thanks . Yeah I hear this is a good place to get bettas. From certain people like Wisperian who is right by them :) . But now I am having second thoughts I would almost just rather keep the Double Tail gene going in them. Because that is my favorite type and it would be more predictable.

Well I'm pretty sure the DTxCT spawn would be more desirable than DTxDT. I've been told by Synirr not to spawn two dts together because it leads to deformities in the fry. So, if you're deciding between the females, go with the CT female rather than the DT one if you're planning on buying them for breeding purposes :)

Really? Even if they were from different spawns? If I did DT male X CT female would you get some DT's or would you get some kind of fry that had small Double tails and had crowntails at the end?

I think if you did a DT with a CT you'd most likely end up with all ST fry, and they would probably not have very long combing. In the F2 you might have some DT.

Thats what I was thinking of.

DT x CT would probably be hideous in the F1 to tell you the truth
I imagine the finnage being something akin to a trainwreck....

Mixing tailtypes is not something you need to play with unless you know what to expect or ask somebody first about the specific fish you are working with. Do you want to work a line of CT DTs? If not, I do not suggest mixing the two types, as that would be pretty much the only purpose for doing so. It would take generations to make a good solid CT DT line worth showing, and that takes years of commitment, so like I said, unless that's something you're interested in, I wouldn't do it. I'm going to be playing with CT DT plakats myself once I find another DT plakat female with the right colours, but I'm not expecting anything pretty for a long time :p

Synirr what do you know about pks / cts. i have them spawning right now. the fem is a mg ct and the male is a mg pk. both really nice fish. i hope to create a line of mg ctpks. i dont see many of these, but a few days ago i saw at luvmybettas site a black ctpk that looked amazing. and i beleive you have a ctpk right?

been reading about genos but theres really not alot of specific info out there.

you'd get fry that are all long fin but pk geno then once you breed one of those girls with a PK male you shuold get 50% 50 % pk and long fins

yeah i figured that, its a shame cause it will probably be a year+ before i see results. i have the female and male in the spawing tank now. so maybe tomorow.

F1 wouldn't be spectacular but I *think* by F2, you should start seeing some so-so CTPKs. And I think by F3, you'll have some really pretty CTPKS.

hate to be a thread stealer but

heres pics of the parents to my spawn now....

male mgpk

female mgct

outcome....

lol maybe, but i highly doubt it. aha
