How Do You All Feel About Breeding Different Tail Types

When mixing the patircularly fancy tailtypes (ie, ct, dt, pk [not fancy, i know...], with sd, d, vt), you won't get anything worth much until at the f2. Since most of the desirable traits are reccesive, the f1 will generally have tails akin to the mutts you'd find at your local lfs. So unless you have, as Synirr said, a particular aim, eg, a CTPK line, it's not worth it. But breeding two 'plain' tail types together, (by that, I mean HM, SD, D, PK) together, the fry should be fine, you just have to keep an eye of the tail spread of the parents so you don't end up with a load of VTs.

Synirr what do you know about pks / cts. i have them spawning right now. the fem is a mg ct and the male is a mg pk. both really nice fish. i hope to create a line of mg ctpks. i dont see many of these, but a few days ago i saw at luvmybettas site a black ctpk that looked amazing. and i beleive you have a ctpk right?

been reading about genos but theres really not alot of specific info out there.
See Agares and Sitri in my sig? Both of those are F1 CT x plakat from Wuv, so there's an idea for you of what the tails will look like. They're kinda messy, I'd keep that F1 spawn small if I were you so you don't have a lot of fish to find homes for. The F2 should produce approx. 1/16 CT plakats, so you'll want that spawn to be bigger so you'll have a few to choose from for your F3.

This question is just out of curiosity, would you still be saying it was ok to breed two different tail types if the male was a plakat? Say with a female double tail or something.

Heya, i do believe the females genes are more dominant? so a CT female and DT male would better i would think. someone correct me if im wrong :)

I doubt that very much, having half the genes from a female won't suddenly make a ressecive trait dominant. Colourwise, perhaps, I've certainly heard the females colouration matters more than the males, which seems fairly true.

That's not quite as bad, but since normal DT still comes under the standard long tail heading, you'd end up with all plain long tails, but since dt's have twice as many rays as normal (or similar), they should be SD as opposed to VT.
