How Do I Remove A Piece Of Mature Filter Media?

I have a new tank that I want to cycle with some mature media from my already cycled tank. How do I do that?

What kind of filters are involved?

Both sponge filters.

Probably best to squeeze the sponges into the new filters sponges

I can't really... my tanks are in two different towns, so I can't completely remove the filter.

Are the filters the same make and size? If they are, just cut a quarter off of both sponges and swap the pieces over.
