in a few months. What am I supposed to do with my tank. It is only a five gallon so I think that'll make it easier (still a beginner who isn't for sure if she can have huge tanks in dorm rooms). Anybody have any advice on how to move my tank nice and easy? It's about a 14 hour drive if that helps any.

Keep your substrate and filter media wet, in a small tank like that you could just leave it in there with a little water covering it and even lay your filter media on the substrate as well. There is some great advice on how to transport the fish as well in topics already discussed - try a search and I'm sure that you will find it. What type of fish are you moving?

Thanks for the reply so quickly. I'm moving 3 African Dwarf Frogs. I'm thinking about setting up another 5 gallon tank and putting a betta in it however. I'll do a search on the forums right after I post this. :D

<Edit> I checked out the search and most of the moves weren't very far. What about going 800 miles. It's 14 hours to drive there. *shrugs*

Put your fish in a large cooler box to keep them worm first of all, put your filter and heater in the cooler box until you are ready to leave this will give you time to get the tank ready for transit.
Its very importent to completly empty the tank, gravel, water the lot. Put the gravel in a plastic bag if you can to keep it moist. Be carefull when moving the tank that you dont stress the tank at its seals.
When you get to your new place put the filter and heater back into the cooler box this will again give you time to set up the tank. At this point dont worry about decorating the tank just get the water right. If at all possible try and keep water from the tank before the move. Fill the tank with water and condition it and get it up to temperature. Every 15 minutes swap a litre of water from the tank with water from the cooler box eventually the water in the box will be the same as the water in the tank, this will reduce stress on the fish. Add your fish one by one. Good luck.

Thanks, Becca! I just went on vacation to Michigan to see my college and the area and all of that and it is a beautiful area and I'm soooo excited about being there! I move to live there for good in a couple of months and the time can't pass fast enough.

Where abouts are you going to school at? Michigan State or University of Michigan (Of course, it could be any one of a dozen others, but those two are the most popular and closest to me. :p)

Weee Yay Michigan Rocks....well it ... has rocks :/ Ive lived here all my life. Clinton Twp forever!

I'm gonna be in Rochester/Auburn Hills. I'll be going to school at Oakland University which is about a half hour from University of Michigan. I'm sooooooo excited! :kana:

Well, congrats on getting in at OU. :) Just a fair warning, our weather here SUCKS! You'll be in a nice area though - close to a lot of the newer shopping malls - and lots of the fun things to do in SE Michigan will be close by. :)

As for U of M - we have two campuses here. Both are about an hour away (Ann Arbor is about 60 miles from Rochester, which is where OU is, if you're a speed demon, I'm you can make it in 30-40.) One's in Dearborn, where I live, and the other is in Ann Arbor. Still not a bad drive though. :)

At any rate, congrats on college and good luck!!
