Get some that are somewhat small. That way you know for sure that they are not really old.

The water should be soewhat acidic, with some vegetation. Also add some salt because they like somewhat saline water.

I have swordtails and some 20 or so fry.
Thay breed like guppys.
I don't use salt.

All you need is 2 females and 1 male.
If you get more then 1 male thay will fight.

Get 2 females for every male and make sure they're healthy and look like if they were mixed they would be pretty.

Keep their water about 2 degrees higher than you normally would. It helps with the breeding. Don't use salt and make sure there is some dense vegetation for the babies to hide in. You should expect between 20 and 50 fry in about 3-4 weeks.

I have a huge black sword female in with 3 males and they chase each other quite a bit,but they're allright. I use salt and I have so many babies I can't get rid of them fast enough. I keep my temp at 78. They seem to take care of business on their own.
