i posted a while ago about my siamese fighter fish which appeared to be bullying other fish. Two neon tetras have died since i got it, and i wanted to get rid of it, but my partner refused. Plus we weren't quite sure what to do with it.
Its been a few weeks, but its now started to bully a fish thats even bigger than itself. it puffs up its face and jabs at it. The fish now has bits missing from its fins.
How do we go about getting rid of the fighter?
thanks

Any chance of giving it a tank of its own?

its a tropical fish, so would be pricey getting a tank set up. so not really. can't find anyone who wants it either.
my partner wants to flush it down the toilet!
do you think the shop would take it back?

Hi, your Betta (siamese fighter) is a solitary fish and don't do well in a community set up so if you don't wish to return it then you'll be needing another tank. It only needs to be a small tank, say 2-5 gallons.

If you do get another tank then you will be well advised to contain the S.F. in a breeding trap or use a tank divider in your present tank while you are cycling the new tank.

Personally I would give concideration to returning it to the LFS or advertise it on this forum

1. Give it a tank of it's own. Their very happy to live by themselves. Plus you could always put a few ghost frimp or african dwarf frogs in, depending on tank size.

2. Try to re-home him to a friend, or other aquarist you know of.

3. Return him to the LFS you purchased him from.

Thats not strictly true, ive kept many Betta's in community tanks without problem, the only problem ive found is the silly fancy tails cant swim properly so require little or no water movement.
