im just putting all the new equip in my empty tank, i want the filter pipe and heater on the same side, they are about 1cm apart.

Would this be ok? dont want the pipe getting to hot

Thanks

I have mine setup an inch or so apart, and have not had any problems. 1cm apart seems a little close IMO. When my heaters turn on the water around them gets a heat wave effect.

Though we only have an Eclipse12, I've got the heater next to the filter intake, with about an inch clearance. My thought was that the heated water would get sucked up into the intake and get circulated quicker... of course that isn't based on any scientific research... just a casual thought process. ;)

Doesnt matter... the water will be drawn into the filter as Yuta says, concider the heater clips - they are in direct contact with the heater body, and they dont melt !
In fact, you can have the heater INSIDE the filter, and you can have an inline one that fits onto the filter pipe ! So I wouldnt worry about it ;-)

I think I would rather have the filter OUTLET "blowing" the heated water around the tank, than sucking it into the filter - as it may be too warm for the bacteria, but Im just thinking aloud here.

As others here have said, the heater being close to the filter means better mixing. In the long run that mans more stable tank temperatures because the whole tank will be about the same temperature and the sensor on the heater will sense the general tank temperature rather than just the warm water coming from the hot end of the heater.

T0 really put the nail in the coffin... my heater as well is close to my filter pipe the main reason being to help the heat disperse better in the tank...

mying is about 2 or 3 inches away... but i think it doesnt really matter =]
