How Can I Get My Ph Down?

theres 2 pieces of bogwood in there already.

It maybe that i have to "drip adjust" the discus to the new pH over an hour.

I dont wanna use that chemical pH Down stuff either.

i thought even with drip adjust the discus wouldnt be too happy. i have a huge peice of bogwood only lowered my ph 0.2 :/

well this is the thing. i have 2 angels in there that are more than. given they like similar chemistry i dont hink the discus will do too bad. i wanted to get it down though so i could just move them straight across

yeah i hear that aswell i want discus at some point but need an ro system  costly tho how badly do i wan a discus, good job xmas is round the corner :D tho i may need to move some fish around cos of the low ph lvls they need

acuall i just cheak my fish could be okay with the discu ph lvls :) there all happy from 6.0-7.5 ne ways

If it's a planted tank, just add some CO2, that will lower the pH. But the only problam you have is it could cause pH swings overnight. What is perhaps more important than the right pH, is a consistant pH.

Discus will be fine in a pH of 7.2. A stable pH is the most important issue for discus.

i thought with discus though you would need R0 due to there dislike of tap water :S

not at all mate. 2 of my discus have spawned in the community tank and have always been kept in treated tap water :)

Anita,
Thanks for that :) i will adjust them VERY slowly to the new tank :).

I suppose if i did a water change on their current tank, that would bring the pH up abit so it wont be as bad adjusting them :)

I mostly agree with Anita, a ph of 7.2 is okay for discus, if your water is not too hard they should be okay, the only reasonably good way to soften water and get an acidic ph is to go the RO route. Just because stability is important. The discus eggs will only hatch in very soft water but young or adult discus should be okay in very clean water in a tank that is not heavily stocked at a ph of 7.2. Acclimatise them very slowly over a couple of hours or more if the water they are coming from is different to yours

how significantly does it drop it? bearing in mind this is a 36x24x36 tank

thanks for that Liam. They are actually being moved from the tank they are currently in at mine to another tank in the house. so other than the pH being different, theres no real difference. The stats in the current tank are

pH 7.2
Ammonia 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate 5ppm

Its due a water change so i aint that worried about the Nitrate.
