i had 6 very healthy neons till i introduced 6 rainbow tetras. the neons just cant compete for the food. ive since lost 2 of the neons in the space of 3 weeks. not sure if its stress or lack of food. any ideas please without having to get rid of one species or the other. my water stats are good so its not that.
thanks for any advice

You could try and seperate them during feeding.
Putting the rainbow tetras in a big net for a few seconds just while the neons eat.
Although I guess this can be quite time consuming.

use a turkey baister to get it closer to them

i think trying to catch the rainbows to seperate them is just gonna cause to much stress so im gonna try the baster idea. if not i guess its another tank
thanks for your ideas

they take it on the surface and while falling. seems like they will eat everything i put in. every time i walk past the tank they go to the top expecting food.

My rasboras sometimes seem to cause the same problem for me as your rainbows. What has worked for me is to put out enough surface food in one are to keep the rasboras pretty busy there but then to grind flake food and plunge my fingers into the water elsewhere, making it drop more quickly and disperse some in the water flow and it seems to provide a greater number of spread out floating tidbits that the neons can compete for. It does seem to make it more of a challange not to overfeed though.
