I have a fluval 3+ that is years old and after some repeated seizing up which cleaning the impeller etc used to fix, it totally packed in last month and no fiddling with the impeller or anything would bring it back to life. Sooo I was about to bin it last night and thought I'll just rip it apart to see how it works, pulled all the bits out, snapped a few things off and jiggled some bits and then out of curiousity I plugged it in and it whirred so I put it back together and it now works better than it has in a long long time.
Just goes to show.....even if your equipment seems dead you should always have a fiddle before spending more money!
I do have a couple extra bits of plastic on the table tho
