Hi all, I've been looking for a universally accepted definition of 'nano tank' without success. So how do you define a nano tank?

When I started it was anything 50 gallons or less but that's really changed. I've kept marine and FW tanks as small as 2.5 gallons now. I would say under 50 liters is a good nano now days. I don't think you will find a universal definition though.

Depends on the context. Marine and freshwater keepers will give you very different answers for instance.

I agree with DrRob. What is considered a decent size for a freshwater tank would probably be considered a nano tank for a marine one.

I dont think there are any set guidelines. For me, a nano tank is a tank you'd only advise keeping a betta or shrimp in.

To me, anything under 100L is a Nano tank and personally I would class anything under 30L as a Pico tank. Not sure what is the definate names for sizes but...

Either way, nice to see you here INJAF, I believe I have seen you about elsewhere. You have goldfish?

Hi

Is there a problem with the poll. It says I don't have permission to view poll results or even vote myself? Can a mod please take a look? Thanks.

Under a 100 gallons a nano

under 50 is a pico

under 25 is known as a phempto

at least that's my parlance..

Could an admin please look into why the poll is not working? Thanks.

Will double check but it might be because you don't have enough posts yet?

On second thoughts... it does say above it 3 members have voted but only showing two votes. Hmmm.... will look into it for you!

That was me, I have an annoying habit of null voting if I don't have a particular answer but am curious as to what has been said.
