I am having to do some fish shuffling around and I have been googling the threadfin to see which tank she is more suitable in. I have put her in with Chops at the moment (who is loving his new friend, softy he is) but I have found such conflicting information as to the size they get, one site says 4" others say different and one site has said they reach 9"

dont quote me on this but i seem to remember reading somewhere they can reach 8 to 9 inches

Asked this question on here before as I had the same problem. Hamfist and Bullit have kept them and they both say 7-8 inches. Ive also read of people having wildcaught up to 26cm and in the species index on here it says 5 inches

Thanks guys, she is about 4" at the moment so she is going to grow some more then, so the 300l tank is suitable for the time being till everyone gets transferred to the 400 (fun!!)

I have seen a pic of a 9" male. As far as I know that is pretty much a maximum figure for an aquarium-kept fish. Females will, of course, max out rather smaller.

Thanks Hamfist, I say she but I am not 100% sure she is a she. It was a case of either the 180l or 300 with Chops but she seems to be doing fine in the 300 so she can stay there.

I love Heckelii. Very "steady" fish, in that they don't take any sh*t, but generally don't start things either. DOn't thrive in my water though

Haven't seen a pic of yours !

She came to me last weekend with some others.

She is a little chewed up from the rainbow (god he is a mean fish!!!) but they have been seperated now. I just have a feeling its a female.

Yes, she has that rather plump, round-bellied female shape (also describes my wife to a tee !).

Spot on description of me too

Plus she is not as colourful, still beautiful mind and very in your face too, she is just lovely

I see you had a psycho Rainbow Cichlid, my male I used to have was pretty nasty to, they are very Convict like and funnily enough used to attack my Eartheaters I had at the time.

Psycho rainbow has been re-named rambo and is now in with Rusty the oscar, mean little brute he is.

lol. hows he getting on in there?

Weirdly enough he is loving it in with the bigger fish, Rusty has chased him a couple of times but Rambo is so much faster than Rusty, but he does stand up to Rusty (who is really a big coward) and Rusty backs off.
