How agressive are they?

Opps, :rofl: Forgot. What about 2 males? Wuldnt they kil each other for the ruler of the tank?

In a 20g long, yes. Besides, jewel cichlids are extremely difficult to sex, and if bought at the usual juvie size they can't be sexed.
 
theyre pure evil :p
im lucky i got a pair because i got a trio and 2 paired off and killed the third :(
only get them in a big tank with fish more aggresive then it :nod:

I have a single jewel in a Mbuna setup and he is one of the least aggressive fish in the tank.

That's probably because he isn't a mbuna :p


On a side note, how hard is the pH? Jewels live at a neutral 7.0, and I believe mbunas live at a much higher pH than that :/

I add a little baking soda to keep the water slightly alkaline, just over seven. Everyone seems happy.
