In a 20g long, yes. Besides, jewel cichlids are extremely difficult to sex, and if bought at the usual juvie size they can't be sexed.

That's probably because he isn't a mbuna


On a side note, how hard is the pH? Jewels live at a neutral 7.0, and I believe mbunas live at a much higher pH than that

I add a little baking soda to keep the water slightly alkaline, just over seven. Everyone seems happy.
