I have a 3 ft (130L/30g) tank. It's got a small gravel substrate with about a dozen plants, small (1.5ft) piece of bogwood and a few rocks for shelter. I'm thinking of stocking it with the following fish. Please let me know what you guys think of my choice and feel free to give pointers.

1 Pleco
2 clown loaches
3 galaxy rasboras
3 tetras

I also want to get something larger (say 3-4 inches) and colourful. something like a cichlid but i've read they're semi-aggresive and may have a hunger for the tertas etc. What do you reckon?

Thanks

I think the only pleco you could fit in a 30 gallon would be a bristlenose pleco. Clown loaches need atleast 50 gallons, so you cant get them. Galaxy Rasboras are getting endangered so have you thought of getting another species e.g. harlequins? And finally tetras, they need to be in a group of atleast 6, you might want to think what type of tetras you want. If you want colourful active ones I would go with neons or cardinal tetras. There are also many different species of tetras, check out the charicins in the species forum! I dont no anything about cichlids but maybe someone else can help you with that!

Good Luck,

Orange Shark

Check out this link for Plecos that will be suitable for your tank:

Plecos 8" and under

Orange Shark is right, Clown Loaches will get too big for your tank so that's a no-go really.
The tetras would be better in groups of 6 or more.

For the larger fish you were wanting, I would reccomend, as someone previously mentioned, a bristlenose pleco. They get about 4.5 inches long and they eat algae as well. they are a little messy so you have to be willing to put in the work but its worth it. Unfortunatley, the clown loaches are a no. I have a 55 gallon and i am not even going to keep them as they like to be in large groups and my tank woould be overstocked eventually. How about some corys? They are great bottom feeders, and peaceful and get to about 3 inches depending on species. I have some serpae tetras but they can be quite fin nippy so i woulndt reccomend you get them. Maybe some pretty guppies. Hope that helps. :good:

I think he needs to take care of the goldifsh first, if he can't get the tank they deserve then he should rehome them, or find a pond for them.
I'm not encouraging anyone to get more fish when there not looking after the needs of the coldwater fish.

Actually, I agree with Wilder. I hadn't noticed your other thread about your goldfish. You would be better putting your goldfish into the 30 gallon tank and using your smaller one for something else.

gold fish need love 2! he would like the 30 and you could get him some buddies! and then...yea...use the smaller tank for some neons or somethin

Sorry wilder,

Poopsydrew it ok I'm just very protective of goldfish they usually get a raw deal in life and they deserve better.

Instead of clown loaches, why not go for Yoyo loaches, there just as much fun, not as colourful but still a great fish growing to about 6"

Cheers

I couldnt agree more. they make a great pet as long as you give them what they need. They are also not as dumb as people seem to think. Also, agree with jo. yoyo loaches would be a great compromise, i have one and plan to get four more! They look just as cool if not cooler than clown loaches IMO because you can actually see the word yoyo on them! And they will keep your tank clean of snails! Good luck.

p.s. i think that most only get 4 inches when kept in captivity. however, you must always prepare for the ones that could possibly get larger, i have heard members say theirs is 8 inches long. Mostly though 4-6 inches. With a big enough tank though i dont doubt 6-8 inches.
