well i could always get the tank then rush into everything, or do some research carefully, find the tank and then do everything in good time......hmmmmmm
I don't think there's any need for the sarcasm. :grr: Maybe you should look at your list yourself before someone has to come along and point out the obvious.
that was to canarsie11 snide remark!!
Ooops

I think it's good to research what you are doing before getting a tank, that goes without saying. You do seem to be putting a few of these type posts up at the moment, quoting different tank sizes. It enough to get anyone confused! :S

Incidently, I think you should run 2 large external filters in a tank that size. I run 2 on my 5ft tank and I think it's the best way. I really like the atman filters, they are not as expensive as others and I find them better.

Yer I'ved posted a few up, mainly for that 6ft tank that i was bidding on but didn't win it, so now I know i'm after a 4ft with the other dimension being as close to 2x2 as possible.

I'ved always been reserach each spific scheme I could go for, cochlids, gourami and now i think i'm settled on some oddballs.

I haven't heard of Atman!! Will probable end up with fluval or ehiem, maybe rena, depends what i find cheap at the time!!.

Like i said canarsie11 don't bother posting here again. I'm not after useless advice on when or not to post for research, i'm asking about fish which seems to be what this forum is about so i guess i'm in thre right place.

Now my topic is all clogged up with your crap. so will probable have to start another topic to get some replies

ah ha so it's a ehiem copy?

there jebo ones aswell which i'ved seen which looks like ehiem copies!!

Doesn't look like my other eheim. They are good external filters with lots of space for different kinds of media or lots of one or two.

I don't like eheims, they cost a fortune and all you are paying for is the name and it's not like anyone can see them anyway.

I have eheim ecco externals and an atman and I prefer the atman but it's up to you.

Oh i was looking at the picture and looks like the ehiem pros.

Are the spare filter pads and stuff easily availible for them?

The thinng with that one is you still have to buy the media filter which is why i bought fluval over ehie as they come with it.

I'm all for the cheapest really, I probable would of got a jebo one off ebay but i wanted somehting i new i could get spares for.

All I am saying is "let us know when you get your tank"

yeh, i'll let everyone know when i get the tank.....until then i'm reseraching on what to put in the tank.

and all i'm saying is, don't bother posting in here again canarsie11........quite literally...

Yeah, filter media is easily available. Some use pond sponge (which is way cheaper) and cut it to size.

I use ceramic rings in the bottom compartment and sponge and floss in the top. It comes with one bit of sponge and floss (I wasn't expecting it to from the 'no media included' bit but there was).

:)

ah ha, i think a fluval still might work out about the same as the bio ring media costs about £17 from what i saw when i was looking at fluvals and ehiems.

A 404 will actually be cheaper which will deal with a 100g quite comfortably.

I would not rely on just one 404 for a 100UK tank, seems like a bad idea. Especially with your plans for plecs. You'd only be circulating your tank less than twice in an hour. Even Fluval say that it's only suitable for tanks up to 400l and a 100UK is 450.

My ceramic rings were £10 for a big box from Pets At Home, you don't have to use them either, it was just what I chose. Top with that the fact that the 3337 is more powerful.

I think you'd be asking for trouble to underfilter a tank to that extent, even if it's large.

I am not going to keep trying to convince you, lol.

yeh i realised that after i posted, there would be 55l un filtered so to speak!!

I'll have to see what i can get locally, but i will want the rings aswell as sponges and carbon.

There is a guy on ebay (I think his ID is attwood aquatics) who sells those filters as Aquapro filters. I did have the largest one on my 55g, and it was a great filter and only cost me £60. Only thing is you're not getting a brand name. But put some media in and essentially all filters work the same: They pass water over the filter media!!
I agree with Cheese though. Overfiltering is always better than under. All my tanks have around double the capacity they need, and all of them (even the little 20g) have cannisters of one kind or another. The other advantage of using 2 cannisters is that if one fails; you are not without filtration while you fix/replace it!!

Oki dokey, i'll have a look around on ebay....yep that is the bad thing being a no name!!, if something like an impeller shaft breaks will I beable to get a replacement for it wth a un known make, thats what I'm basically thinking of, also the resale value of a fluval, rena, ehiem will be alot greater!!

I agree on having over, I didn't reliase the turn over rates of the higher fluvals. I have a 204 rated to 44gallons on my 25gallon. Bought that one brand new for about £60.

I'll probable go about finding some high rated 2nd hand ones.
