I'm trying to work out what fish to keep in my 4ft tank when i find one!!

it will most likely be a 4x2x2 which 100UK galons or 120US gallons.

so far i'm thinking...

4 clown loach
4 silver shark/balas
1 RTBS
1 peacock spiny eel
1 black knife fish
2-3 banjo catfish
about 4-5 L number plecs

and thats all i can come up with!!

i would like a larger type catfish and something substantial to swim the mid to upper level but i'm lost for ideas???

Too many bottom dwellers IMHO, maybe others will think different.

Only the balas are top/middle dwellers of those listed and the bottom dwellers are all pretty large and some (the plecs) messy.

What is your filtration going to be like?

well i could always get the tank then rush into everything, or do some research carefully, find the tank and then do everything in good time......hmmmmmm

Opps forgot i'm thinking 4ft and not 6ft!! i'll cut the balas out of the question as they'll get too big for this one!!

I was thinking that with enough decor to add surface area to the bottom that many bottom dweller should be ok..... I do like my bottom dwellers!!

I'll be after a external filter for it, most likely 304 or 404 which ever is powerful enough then to a degree i can swap media with my 204. But if there's a external that comes with the tank I'll go about using that if I like it.

I don't think there's any need for the sarcasm. :grr: Maybe you should look at your list yourself before someone has to come along and point out the obvious.

Get your tank first.......

We all have plans for new tanks buddy.

Now if u said you were getting in next week, next 2 weeks, even a month.

You have no idea when its coming or if u will get it. So stop making imaginary posts

It's not imaginary.

I have dosh ready in my account ready to buy one and space in my room ready to put it.....so as soon as I find one I'll be buying, so it would be tomorrow i find one, could be next week, but it will be soon.

The fact that i'm making good use of time researching while I'm not rushing about trying to get it stocked and ready is usually the down fall of fish keepers....not enough research before hand.

So for this fact I don't see why you are mocking the idea of someone buying a new tank.

IMO It is better to consider and plan the fish you are going to keep in advance of buying a tank, allowing plenty of time for research (for example this post) and allowing you to adapt the tank to the fish you want to keep (in this case paul_v_biker may decide to spend his money on a wider and longer but shallower tank, than he may otherwise have bought, since by planning the inhabitants it is clear he wants many bottom dwellers). As far as this post being 'imaginary' I see no more harm in it than in one of the regular "I've got a bala shark in my 2' tank" type posts- at least he will porvide the fish with the nessassary environment.

Edited for spelling

agreed. I'd rather people did it like this and we all had to answer more questions than end up with hundreds of Balas and Oscars etc. in tiny little tanks. I did exactly the same thing as Paul V Biker before I got my 150g. I asked "imaginary" questions to which I got answers, and now I have the tank; it is being stocked in a way that I avoid (as much as possible) any conflict in there!!
I think what you said was a bit harsh canarsie11!

that would be urm 3 againast 1 :p

if you don't have anything useful to say canarsie11 don't bother posting

I dont care if you keep count.

And I also not saying it is not good to plan first.

Your original post sounded like you did not know when you were getting the tank.

Thats why I said when you get the tank or atleast know when your gonna get it let us know, not if tank is coming 6 months from now.

i'm not counting either just making fun of the matter.....

well cheese specialist was fine with giving info, even if the tank wasn't near.

it's always best to match the fish you want to the tank though, rather than tank to fish.

the point is I'm deciding on what i'm going to stock on it before i get the tank..

just don't bother posting in here again...your views are not wanted canarsie11
